The commission, led by IMF representative, Alejandro Santos, met between May 18th and May 28th with the Governor of the Central Bank, Hector Valdez Albizu, Ministers of Finance and Economy, Vicente Bengoa and Temistocles Montas respectively; Celso Marranzini, vice president of the CDEEE, members of the Economic and Social Cabinets, senior government officials and private sector and international community representatives, to discuss the second revision of the Stand-By Arrangement (SBA), which was approved by the IMF Executive Board in November 2009.

The (IMF) predicted on the basis of these results that for the full year 2010, the real GDP growth is expected to be between 5 and 5.5 percent, while inflation will remain within the Central Bank’s target range.

Although the inflation rate in April surpassed the Central Bank’s target of 6 to 7 percent, this was due mainly to rising prices of fuel and some food products, core inflation (which excludes these prices) is still less than 3 percent on an annual basis.

All performance criteria and structural indicators have been met for the end of March 2010 and progress is continuing to be made in all areas of the structural agenda, except for the delays in implementing the electricity reform, he added.
